Hardware selector

Not sure what you need? Answer four questions.

Our interactive selector recommends the till, fiscal device, printer, kitchen screen and handheld that fit how you run — with the reasoning for each. No lock-in; buying from us is optional.

Why we don't sell hardware

Hardware is a physical-goods business. We're a software company.

Most restaurant POS vendors sell you a bundle — software, hardware, payments. The bundle looks tidy. It locks you to one supplier, marks up the hardware, and makes sure the day you want to switch is the day you discover the screws are proprietary.

dojofood doesn't play that game. The software runs on commercial hardware you can buy from anyone — Apple, Lenovo, Samsung, Elo, Sunmi, your local supplier of ten years. We tell you what we've tested. You buy direct. If something breaks, you call the people who sold you the device. Not us. Not a chain of three companies pointing fingers.

We make money on the software. The hardware should make money for whoever built it.

The four categories

What goes on a typical floor.

Click into each one for the device classes we've tested, what to look for, and what to avoid.

Countertop

POS Terminal

iPad, Android tablet, or all-in-one commercial terminal. Mounted at the till. Runs your floor and your marketplace queue. See POS Terminal →
Tableside

Handheld POS

Phone or dedicated handheld in the waiter's apron. Order tableside, fire to the kitchen, take payment if the model supports it. See Handheld POS →
Above the pass

Kitchen Display

Tough commercial screens that survive heat, steam, and a sauce-covered glove. Tickets land glanceable. No printer. See Kitchen Display →
Around the till

Printers, drawers, networking

Receipt printer, kitchen printer, cash drawer, the Ethernet switch that holds it together. Standard protocols, off-the-shelf devices. Ask what's tested.

Want the right kit for your floor?

Bring your own

Already have hardware? You probably don't need to replace it.

Most operators we talk to already own at least some of the kit. We almost always work on what's there.

Works almost always

  • iPad (10.9" and 12.9", 2020 and newer)
  • Modern Android tablets, 10"–13"
  • iPhone 12 and newer for waiter app
  • Commercial all-in-one POS terminals (Elo, Sunmi, NCR class)
  • Standard receipt printers that speak ESC/POS
  • USB and Bluetooth bump bars
  • Most kitchen-grade displays with HDMI input

Send us the model — we'll check

  • Older Android tablets (pre-2020)
  • Proprietary terminals from your previous POS
  • Certified fiscal printers, per country
  • Specific payment terminals — we orchestrate, we don't process
  • Network-attached cash drawers from older bundles
  • Whatever else the rep sold you in 2019

Honest about the no

  • Locked-down hardware from another POS vendor — usually can't be reflashed
  • Very old iPads that won't run iOS 16+
  • Phones below iPhone 12 / equivalent Android — they choke on the waiter app
  • Cheap consumer printers without a network or ESC/POS support
  • Mystery hardware with a glossy brochure and no model number — we'd need to see what's underneath

If you're unsure, send a photo or model number to our team. We'll come back the same day with a yes, a no, or a "we'll test it this week."

How buying actually works

Three honest paths.

01

You buy direct.

From your local supplier, Amazon, Apple, the distributor your previous place used. We send a config sheet — model numbers, what to ask for, what to skip. You order. We set up the software when the box arrives.
02

We introduce you.

If you're new to the market without a supplier, we'll point you to the ones we've worked with. No commission. No kickback. We get one thing if you go with them — your operation goes live on time.
03

You keep what works.

Half the operators we onboard already have the kit. We use what's there. The hardware bill on switching from another POS is often zero.
Have questions? Let's talk.

Bring the kit you already own. We'll work with it.

20 minutes with us. Tell us what's on the counter, what's in the kitchen, your budget. We'll tell you what to keep, what to add, what would be a mistake to buy. Send a photo or model number — we don't sell, we help you decide, and you get a real reply within a business day.
